The Chinese are definitely known for their fine craftsmanship and ancient traditions and this wedding clock is a fine example of their traditions. The horse signifies compatibility and was a traditional wedding gift. The bride traditionally would be in seclusion for a few days prior to her wedding to be with her family and friends that she would soon be giving up to be with her future husband. This clock looks to be circa early 1900's, Quing dynasty. T is Chinese writing but I cannot transcribe it to date it precisely. Today still, wedding clocks are a part of the Chinese tradition to countdown to the wedding. This is a fine antique clock that has been a part of the Chinese tradition. This clock is in fine working condition and is a beautiful clock. It does appear that a candle has been kept on the top and melted but for display purposes you would never notice it. It is a wind up pendulum clock and I am not sure if it is a 3, 5, or 7 day wind up cycle. The original key is indluded. The glass front has probably been replaced but the rest of the clock looks to be original. The brass decor is very intricate. This is a mantle or shelf clock and very beautiful. It measures 23"high; 5"depth; and 10 5/8 long. This is in great working and physical conditon. It would make a great Wedding Gift!! If you are bidding outside of the U.S. please read more
