Sorting my New Hampshire farmhouse and now helping my friend Betsy to sort as well. This is from my house. THIS AUCTION IS FOR A BEAUTIFUL OLD CHOCOLATE POT IN A LOVELY PALE BLUE GREEN COLOR WITH SERPANT HANDLE AND DECORATIONS OF BIRDS AND VINES MADE BY MASON IN STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND 1813 - 1825 I am by no means an expert on pottery or china. Have always just thought this a very beautiful chocolate pot. My friend Barbara looked the mark on the bottom up in a book called Kovels Dictionary of Marks and told me what this one meant. (you can see I have photographed the mark) Apparently it was made by GM and CJ Mason lane delph in Staffordshire England and they used this mark between 1813 and 1825 and the piece is considered Impressed Ironstone. She said that they later became a member of the Wedgewood Group. If you know more about it I welcome the sharing of your knowledge. It is very detailed with birds of different sorts and nests and flowers and vines. It is a lovely muted shade of a blueish green or greenish blue. The handle is s serpant. The lid which is attached I think is pewter. This has been a special piece and to my surprise t is not one crack (even hairline) or chip or crazing on it at all. It's only flaw is that t is a little ding on the pewter lid that looks as though someone in filling it touched the hot pot that they were pouring the chocolate from against the pewter. I think that a pewtersmith could make the little ding smooth. If you have any questions please do ask. If you need more photos let me know too. I am not able to add photos in the last hours of the auction but can before. This is one of those please do not bid on it unless you love it pieces as I love it so much and want it to go to an appreciative home. International buyers & buyers outside of the lower 48 United States please contact me before the auction's end to determine shipping cost.
