Antique Christian Becker Balance Scale + Weights + Misc This is an antique Christian Becker, Analytical/Apothocary Balance Scale. It measures 16 1/2" wide x 9 1/8"Deep and 17 1/4" Tall. The serial number is B-35159. There is a brass patent number with the number 1591802 stamped on it. Inside is a label that reads "Christian Becker, New York and there are graduations h, (there is also a level bubble just in front of the label. ) On the right hand side is a brass label that reads Christian Becker, Inc., New York, NY, Serial number B35159. I am including with the scale a set of weights and other items as shown in the tenth photo. I don't know if all of these items were original to the scale but I purchased them with it, so they go out with it. All the glass is in excellent condition and there are no nicks or dings in the glass and the surface is original. There was some damage on a couple of corners so the last owner added about a half inch stripe of black adjacent to the black glass on the bottom. I have enlarged the photos of this damage so you can see it clearly. It looks worse in the close up than it really is. The Becker family was well kn own for making precision balances. They immigrated to the US from Germany aroun d the 1850's an d located in New York. Unfortunately I'm not an expert on these scales and I was able to set it up and balance it but I don't have the faintest idea what to do with it after that.
