This is a very fine original 1859 civil war era sword . It has its partial sheath with it also . It was manufactured by the Ames MFG. Co. of Chicopee, Mass. My knowledge is somewhat limited on the subject of swords . So, I will just describe it to you the best I can, instead . *****Please note first ***** Due to the camera effect and or lighting effect the handle grip area only, appears greenish and bluish in the photos . This is only in the photos though and not in person . In person the entire handle with the grip included appears as older bronze and all of the handle is entirely uniform in this color . I went back later and took another photo on a slant instead, to see if this would eliminate the problem and it did (12th photo). **************** Condition : The blade is " very " straight and the point is the original and very sharp . The edge of the blade is "excellent" with absolutely no dings nor nicks at all . The edge of the blade is the original edge the sword came with . It has never been re-sharpened . The sides of the blade are very nice too with no dings nor nicks at all and with alittle light surface oxidation and t . This mainly on one side only . The top edge of the blade is also very nice with no dings nor nicks at all, either . Near the middle t is alittle surface oxidation . The entire handle is bronze in color . T are absolutely no dings nor nicks at all anyw including the entire gard area . T are also no scratches on the sword nor handle anyw at all . The blade is very tight and secure into the handle, and the very back end of the handle has no dings nor nicks at all . It is very round and very smooth . The blade measures 28" long . The entire sword measures 34 3/8" long . **** The sheath is not complete and is missing the bottom half . The bronze portion is very fine .
