Up for auction today is a genuine US Coast Guard 1940's commissioning pennant. This was owned by a long retired US coast guard sailor who received this as a going away gift when he retired from the United States Coast Guard. He is getting older and he wants someone else to have it that will enjoy displaying it in their home or maybe on their ship (boat). The commissioning pennant is flown from the aftermost masthead. It is displayed to indicate that the vessel is under command of a commissioned officer or a commissioned warrent officer. It's hoisting is the central event in the commissioning of a new ship. The flag is 1-1/2" wide and is 49" long. It has 13 blue stars on a white field and it has 16 vertical red and white stripes. It has a solid brass eyelet. Their are some letters and numbers written near the eyelet that are faded but I believe it reads: C.G. 7. It is in rather good shape for its age but it does have a few minor holes in it from use and age, nothing major though. Great gift for a guardsman or for that patriot collector out there. Very unique and rare! God Bless the USA!! Thanks to all the vets out there! God bless you!
