Hi, this auction is for an old antique stitching horse or cobblers bench that dates back to the 1800s sometime. This has been in my family since the early '70s when my uncle brought it home and did an amateur restoration on it. It had been painted red and had a broken leg. He stripped it and refinished it in a dark stain and repaired the leg. I've shown in the pics the repairs as well as all the original hardware. I'm not sure about the leather belt strap but it looks very old. It's looked like this since then. Everything still works so I guess you could still use it for it's intended purpose if you wanted to. Cobblers and leather workers both use/used this and in my research I found it appears that JD Randall had a patent for this. I also have a picture from an old article about colonial Williamsburg, VA. showing a cobbler using one. That would date it back to the late 1700s! Regardless it's just a nice old piece with a lot of character. Any questions ask before bidding. I would prefer local pick-up on this but if I have to ship it will be partially taken apart and well packed. Thanks for looking.
