This auction is for the first 14 issues of The Coin Slot as pictured from September, 1974 through December, 1975. The Coin Slot was the first newsletter/magazine of its kind for collectors of antique slot machines and coin-op devices. The very first issue was published in September, 1974 before collecting became popular. Antique slot machines were illegal in all states except Nevada until 1976 when California became the first state to legalize slot machine collecting. Issue #1, Sept 74 has on the cover a reprinted ad from the 1930s which shows a "Columbia Silent Automatic Bell" for $74.50. The issue begins with an editorial by Les and Edith Druyan. The first few words are as follows: " Getting out the first issue of a newsletter is quite a challenge, especially when it is on a subject that has never been covered before; at least as far as we know..." The first several issues are printed on paper only somewhat better than newsprint, but the the paper quality improves around June, 1975 when they put colored ink on the cover. Each issue is approximately 6" by 9" and has about a dozen pages. USPS Priority mail shipping will be $4.80. USA bidders only. I do not ship internationally.
