This was one of the belongings of my great Aunt Lillian. She was a shrewd old gal that seemed to be at least 190 years old when I was a kid. She was way ahead of her her time..passionate marriages, successful divorces and an eye for stock and valuable goods. Antique Copper Apple Butter Pot/Cauldron W/ Lid I wouldn't hesitate to say that this piece is from the mid 1800's. I want to be right up front and mention the two problem with this great Copper Kettle. The lid has not been opened in so long, I can't remove it. It is not tacked on, just stuck. I don't want to damage the piece by trying to force it. Also, on one side, the handle and bracket have broken away. All of the hardware is still present. Again, I don't want to tamper with the integrity of the piece. Now for the positive ... The body of the Kettle is in great used and antique condition. The Copper has been hand hammered and dovetail edges are noted. T are a few dings, but the type one would anticipate from such a piece. T is no large dents or areas that have rusted through, or any rust at all. The Copper Lid has a forged looped handle that was used for hanging over the fire. The swing handle is also solid and forged. The Pot stands approx 9-1/2 inches in diameter and approx 8 inches high. This is the type of piece was often used to make Apple Butter.The handles were not read more
