We are pleased to offer a superb sterling covered vegetable that can be used as two serving dishes made by Gorham for Geo. C. Shreve & Co. of San Francisco. The well defined lion stands on a grass base with beaded rim. The removable handle appears to be made of silverplate. Both top and bottom have a stylized gadroon rim. The bottom bears the Gorham mark for sterling as well as the mark of Geo. C. Shreve & Co. While the word sterling does not appear, I feel sure this is sterling and will offer a money back guarantee if not sterling. The length is 11 inches, and width is 8 inches. Weight is 42.6 troy ounces, or 1,323.9 grams. Both the top and bottom have light surface scratches from utensils that is too difficult to photograph. Lightly scratched on the bottom is an identification number, and present on the bottom is surface scratches from wear. On the underside of the rim on the bottom dish t is a slight rough area that is shown in a photo (really magnified). On one side of the lid t are a few very shallow 'crinkles' that were impossible for my camera to capture. No dings, dents or repairs. We ship USPS whenever possible, but we will accommodate buyers need. Seller is not responsible for loss or damage on uninsured items. Shipping cost is based on zip code or country. Due to questions regarding the Gorham marks, I took the covered dish to a local jeweler and he believes it is either sterling or coin silver including the lion handle. No acid test was performed, and he did not make any deep scratches. T is no base metal showing on either the lid or bottom.
