When t is an item from an estate sale that draws me in I start asking questions. Who owned it, w is it from, how old, what can you tell me about it? I find the history of by-gone times fascinating. The city of Grand Rapids is full of history which varies from the time the city was called the furniture capital of the world to also having many diverse immigrations. Most of us who follow and admire the Arts & Crafts movement are familiar with Limbert and his Grand Rapids & Holland Factories. Many Stickley and Limbert pieces are still being discovered at Estate sales in Michigan. John Widdicomb, Sligh, Howard Miller, Herman Miller, Baker, Heckman are all still abundant in local homes. My listings today have an interesting background. Years ago this family had moved to Michigan from Ohio. The woman running the sale told me although the house was full of antique glassware the owner had crates of it packed away that he was keeping. She went on to explain that many pieces were; examples, factory defects, and so on from a glass manufacturer in Ohio that a member of the family had worked for. She couldn't say for certain but thought it had been Imperial or Indiana Glass. Each piece I asked her about, her reply was, "I know it's old"! She informed me that some of the things were from the Grandmother, down to the mother, she passed them down to her son and he's now in his 80s. The gorgeous blue console set he had mentioned he remembered it always sitting on the buffet when he was a boy. It's guaranteed to be old. While the Antique lighting seems to call my name and I have several beautiful cut glass lamps to list, I couldn't resist some of these other wonderful Antique glasswares! I can't say specifically who made some of the pieces yet I can state with certainty that house was full of old glass! I hope you enjoy looking at them too.
