You are viewing an exquisite 19th century kitchenware antique. This little gem is a flatware tray for knives and a bread board (or cutting board). This primitive woodenware find dates back to aproximately the 1880's. This decorative arts trencher sports a storage tray with mitred corners. The tray is further accentuated by its pronounced angular figure sporting an also exaggerated taper . . . fabulous! The grain board is fitted on a spectacular cricket pedestal (meaning 3 legged - like a tripod). The trio of legs are carved out of dowels of lumber which makes for a superb textural contrast to the rest of the box. This vintage tableware has a first rate complexion showcasing lots of shallow knive cuts that have all but smoothed down much like sea glass . . . extraordinary. The grain of the oak is modestly figured and outstanding. The color is a warm and worn chestnut brown . . . silky to the touch, and soothing to the eye. T are a variety of great uses for this old silverware cabinet: use it as a desk caddy to house pens, pencils, sissors, letter opener etc., a dresser valet, a telephone stand with storage underneath for phone messages, use it on a hall tree for keys and mail, and the list goes on.
