You are bidding on an: Antique DAVIS LEVEL & TOOL CO. 4" Iron Bench Pedstal Level -Patent No. 11 (1875 to 1892)- This is a rare 4 inch pedestal level by the Davis Level & Tool Company, Springfield, Massachusett. The specific year can not be dated but the specific company "Davis Level & Tool Co." itself dates from 1875 through 1892, which makes this pedestal a minimum of 116 years old. While not marked, it is unquestionably the product of the Davis Level And Tool Co. in which they cataloged it as their No.11 "Patent Iron Bench Level". The Davis Company is well known for the exquisite line of levels that it produced. As you can see from the picture this antique pedestal level is in superb looking condition with no cracks or damage! This rare level has most of its japanning and retains all of the nickel-plating on the tube. It also shows its original decorative gold striping. The edges of the base are crisp with almost no corner rounding or consequential corner smushing what so ever! This Davis Patent Bench Level has a 4 inch base, and was one of the smallest that they made. Not only is this a bench level, but t is a groove across the bottom and two tightening screws, so it can also be attached to a square or straight edge.
