GRRRRRR.... How gorgeous are these? These ferocious lion cufflinks are making their debut at auction, sporting superb sculptural craftsmanship, such as a detailed, down to the last hair, mane, sculpted eyes, eye lids, nose, teeth, and so on, all just exquisite... In their mouths, they hold a prong set faceted blue stone, which a jeweler determined may not be a sapphire. They measure 9/16 by 1/2 inches, weigh 6 grams of 14K gold, and are hallmarked with a "c" contained in an arrowhead, which is the insignia for fine jewelry firm Carter, Gough & Company of Newark. Carter, Gough were makers of superior gold and platinum jewelry during the first decades of the last century and a vintage gold & pearl barette by the firm was recently exhibited in the Newark Museum show "Baubles, Bangles and Bling Bling: A World of Jewelry".
