we have to offer you a fine old ring, made of sterling silver, and featuring a fiery blue opal cabochon! The opal has fire of green ,red ,purple and pink, which glimmers with each movement! This is an old ring, circa 1935, and most likely was made with the gentleman in mind. It certainly can be worn with pride by any gal today, whose finger is fat enough to keep it on, or you could add sizing balls....... It is a size 8 1/2, but could be sized up, or down, 2 whole sizes, by a competent jeweler. T is a slight sign of the ring having been sized in the past. I imagine that the stone might be a doublet, or even a triplet, which is w materials such as a black backing and a protective glass dome (a triplet has both) are added to enhance, and protect the delicate ,relatively soft opal. ( the first thing i did when i got this ring is give it a nice cool drink of well water..opals should be treated to drinks of pure water once or twice a year, as they are porous, and need water to keep them from becoming brittle) ...this bath also brightened up the setting, which appears rather dark in the photos- they were taken pre-bath. The ring still has a wonderful patina, and is obviously a fine old treasure. The opal measures 5/16" long by 1/4" wide, and is oval in shape.
