This antique Diamond Field (sometimes called Field of Diamonds) quilt-top is 78" x 90". It is in excellent condition. I don't believe any of the solid or print fabrics are feedsacks, but some of them may be. I can't tell for sure. The solid green small diamonds and natural-colored setting blocks are a fine-weave muslin or broadcloth fabric. The diamond blocks are approximately 8 1/2" x 12 1/2", including the cream outer rows and green small diamond rows. Each individual hexagon is about 1 1/8" across. The piecing is a combination of very small machine stitches and hand stitching. The machine stitching was used to put together the parallel seams of rows of hexagons. The rows were then apparently stitched together by hand. Hopefully you can see this technique in the two photos of the backs of individual blocks. This quilt top has only a few flaws, none of which are very obvious. There isn't much to describe! One block near the center of the quilt has a few light brown spots on 5 of the small hexagons in the print section of the block. The spots were obviously there before the quilt was pieced, because, in several cases, they disappear into the seams, and none of them overlap the seams. I do not think you can see the spots in any of the photos, but just in case, they are in a block with dark red surrounding the yellow center. The print has red, yellow and blue balloon shapes on a natural background. (An interesting side note about this particular block: I recently listed and sold a Many-Pointed, or Idaho, Star quilt that contained this same print fabric. In that listing is a photo of its block with the same print fabric. If you would like to see it, please search my completed listings to pull it up.) I just checked, and you can see these spots in the first (gallery) photo when you enlarge it. The block involved is just above and to right of center of the photo, and the spots are mostly along the upper left edge of the block. In the photo of the front side of a single tan-toned block, you can see a brown spot on one of the solid tan hexagons. The spot is medium brown, and about 1/4" in diameter. I see a very light brown age spot about 3/8" in diameter on one of the green striped print blocks in a predominantly green block. In the cream-colored row around the outside of that block, I see some very light brown age spots on a couple of the hexagons. A predominantly orange block nearby has 2 very light brown small age spots on two of the cream hexagons. A medium blue/blue print block has 2 small medium brown spots on one of the cream hexagons in its outer row. Several areas of the outer edge of the quilt have some yellowing or light brown shading on the cream hexagons, mostly along the areas where they are seamed together. "Stitched" with two large stitches, to one edge of the quilt, are two pieces of paper. The top one (see photo) says "For Jim (and) Velma, Nannie pieced." Jim and Velma were my parents, (both born in 1913), and Nannie was my father's older sister. He was the youngest of eleven children, and I don't know how much older she was than he. That piece of paper has printing on the other side, and appears to be from an old pattern envelope; the kind that was mail-ordered many years ago. It shows a portion of the pattern company name and address, directions to the Postmaster and part of an illustration. The second, underlayer of paper, says "for Velma, Nannie pieced it for me. Diamond field." I have not tried to clean this quilt top, although I suspect that some of the stains and age spots could be removed by someone with the right experience. I'm afraid I would do more damage than good by trying, so am selling it "as is." If you have any questions, or would like to see any further details, please ask for a better description or additional photos. All of my items come from a smoke-free home. I pack carefully and ship quickly; usually the next day after payment is confirmed. If I receive your payment early in the day, your shipment may...
