Antique "Dr. LeGear's" Medicine Bit Horse Veterinary Ranch Farm Drenching Bit

For your consideration is another outstanding Kansas City estate sale item. It is a rare antique “Dr. LeGears” medicine/drenching bit, circa 1890-1915. My research has found that this bit was invented by Dr. LeGear in late 1880’s and was used in medical practice on farmers and ranchers to administer medicine to large animals such as horses, mules, cattle and donkeys. The bit was put into the horses mouth and the leather strap was placed over the ears like a head stall. The funnel rotates and medicine would be poured into the funnel, flowing directly towards the back of the horse’s mouth. It is made of solid iron with a brass makers tag affixed to the funnel. This is one of the very first vaiations with nickle plating and the brass name tag. It is an excellent example with good leather and no damaged parts. You will not find a better example. It would serve the most demanding collection very well. Good luck bidding!!
