SUPERB ANTIQUE DRESDEN HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN PORTRAIT COVERED URN
GERMANY LATE 19TH CENTURY Up for bid is this magnificent piece of fine porcelain manufactured in Germany by the renowned factory of DRESDEN. A superb VIENNA style covered urn completely hand decorated and gilt portraying a young lady in profile, in the manner of WAGNER. The baluster shaped handled urn on stepped square plinth with canted corners has a matching cover and is masterfully hand decorated, jewelled and gilt with scrolls, flowers and leafage on a deep cobalt-blue ground and features a central oval medallion picturing a lady in profile exquisitely hand painted in colour enamels. She seems to be alive, dreaming, truly a Belle Epoque beauty, finely portrayed and artist signed to the right GEYER. The scene is also titled in German ERBLUHT ( BLOSSOMED ) underneath the base. A top of the line piece measuring approx. 14 in. ( 35.5 cm. ) in height and in very good antique condition. The finial at the end of the lid needs to be professionally bounded. The screw attaching the urn to the base seems was missing at one point and a brass collar is placed and glued instead; no chips, no cracks. A fantastic piece of the finest porcelain, skilfully hand painted and gilt and in great antique condition bearing stamped in the underside the Dresden manufacture mark in green, plus traces of the original paper label. The piece title ERBLUHT and the original retailer store name LA ESMERALDA / HABANA are also inscribed in gold underneath this fabulous piece. A one of a kind covered urn of the finest quality porcelain manufactured in Dresden, Germany, at the end of the 19th Century, circa 1900, during the Art-Nouveau era.
