Ingraham "gingerbread" or kitchen clock movement. I acquired this movement at an antique's show years ago with the hopes of making a clock with it. I have had it sitting around the house for some time now and thought it would be a good time to pass it on to the perspective clock repair-person or perhaps a collector who needs parts for his or her antique clock. I should mention that these earlier rear-mount movments are becoming scarce. This movement was ultra-sonically cleaned several years ago by a professional horolgist. It was very dirty when I bought it and it still 'looks' dirty from the pictures. Apparently, the previous owner(s) had used graphited lubricant which is entirely the wrong lubricant to use! I can assure you though, that it has been cleaned - although additional cleaning and polishing may be needed. T are water stains from the solvent bath and some of the steel parts have very light rust. The springs will need to be scrubbed with fine steel wool and greased with the proper lubricant. It should be mentioned that the springs are NOT broken, but just un-wound so that the next buyer won't have as much trouble if he/she wishes to dissassemble the mechanism. The gears are good and show normal wear with the exception of the primary governing gear on the strike train being missing a tooth. This is evident in the fourth photograph. I was going to repair this by soldering on another tooth but never got around to it. This repair will be up to the new owner. The original verge was broken but I am including a new rough verge (non shaped, non polished) along with the old one so that it can be re-made. I should note that the tips of the teeth on the escape wheel are slightly bent from being rubbed against the broken verge previous to my ownership. This is easily fixed by swaging with a swedge or with needle-nose pliers. The bushings seem to show normal wear and should last many years with proper lubrication. The movement is marked as follows: E. INGRAHAM CO. PATd OCT. 8.78. NOV. 11.79. BRISTOL. CONN . I am including in this auction the original clock face along with extra parts. The paper on the face is darkened with oil, scuffed, and oxidized. It should probably be replaced (these are available new.) The brass, however, is in good condition. Also included are the original hands, alarm dial (not the alarm mechanism,) suspension rod and spring, cup nut, and extra verge (already mentioned.) The parts are in good servicable condition. All in all, this movement would make a great item for parts or restoration. It would take very little work to have a running replacement movement for your kitchen clock.
