This is an outstanding Chinese Export mug decorated in figures and scenic designs. This piece came from a high end New York estate. I know the people well that ran this estate and I can say unquestionably that they are experts who specialize primarily in Chinese antiques. I was told that its time period dates from the late 1700's to the early 1800's. This is classic Chinese porcelain at its finest. This mug is made of a thick non see through, or opaque porcelain material. The designs were hand drawn and painted. The scenic and figural Chinese designs on this piece are as nice as it gets. The use of colors and the thick glazes are outstanding. The colors are bright and clear and there are many of them. Actually, too many to list. You can both see and feel the raised glazes of these colors throughout this piece. Even the top interior is accented with thick raised hand painted Oriental designs. The fancy handle is gorgeous and resembles many made by Meissen. Did Meissen copy the Chinese or did the Chinese copy Meissen? In any case, it has a lovely twisted handle which connects to the cup in four spots onto four large raised porcelain leaf and berry designs which are trimmed in gold gilt.
