As shown, from a local estate, this is wooden Whaling Blubber Paddle. This was a paddle used at the Hawke Bay Whaling Station (Labrador Coast) in the 30’s-40’s to stir the blubber reduced from the whale harvest in the area. We obtained this from an estate of the man that worked at that station and he brought it back when the plant burned in 1959 as a souvenir. This was passed on by his son who handled the estate disposal. It is a hand carved paddle with signs of age and wear, a very interesting conversation piece. The remnants of the whaling station apparently still exist but deteriorating quickly, signs of another life and time. Would make an interesting addition to a collection, museum, bar, restaurant, etc. It is as shown and “as found”. it is being sold “as-is” and is exactly as shown. .
