This Lamp is Very Old and Could have possibly been a Lamp used by Thomas Jefferson or George Washington. A rare large and fully intact 18th century glass whale oil lamp; the bowl of flattened globular form with opening to top above a drip-pan, with flattened knop below on a hollow blown double baluster stem, the partly hollow handle (long drawn-out “tear”), the base of domed bell shape with double folded foot rim. Soda metal containing perhaps a little lead. Date: circa 1760 – 1790. Major parts made of blown and tooled glass, the glass with nice swirls and striation lines and containing small air bubbles and the odd impurity. Pontil scar below the base. Height: approx. 11 inches. 26,5 cm The lamp is in perfect condition. No chips, cracks, stars or repairs. Old use wear below the foot rim. see item number .
