Early Tiger and Birdseye Maple Knife Box Original Square Nailed Construction Rich Patina For your consideration is this Tiger and Birdseye Maple knife Box found at a great local estate auction in the Midwest. I like Tiger and good Birdseye but have never had a knife box featuring both. Think it's a pretty sweet piece. Square nailed, all original construction, great cut-out handle, with superb finish with great patina. Love it. T is an apology to the inside insert of the carrier-handle which I have photographed from two angles. Needs repair. I am far from having any woodworking skill and will leave that to the new owner. Measures: 13 3/8"L by 8 7/8/"D by 7"H The piece is early. Probably dates from mid 1870's possibly 1880's. Cut-out handle is well-carved. Feels comfortable in the hand. Good detail and well-formed. Well is deep and expertly crafted. Finish is great. Rich tiger and honey-toned the way a good piece of Tiger should be. Sides are all Birdseye. Sturdy to the base and no splits to the wood. Nicely grained. Flared sides are super. Bottom is fine. Also solid. Show no signs of weathering, warping. Think it's an outstanding display of true Americana. Think this would be a fine addition for any avid collector of Tiger Maple, Birdseyes Maple, Primitive, Box folk from the era.
