I've called this an Ebony style plane, however, I'm not a wood expert but the color and the density of the black wood leads me to believe that the body of this very old style plane is Ebony. There are no identifying markings of any kind that I can find on the tool that I've kept safely for the past 40+ years. The only missing item for this plane that I know of is the cutting blade. All of the adjustments work and it should be noted that one of the wooden adjustments is broken and held together with twisted wire; it was this way when my parents purchased it at an antique auction in 1972. The basic body of this plane has age related cracks which comes from very old wooden items. It appears that a previous owner of the plane may have made some “field repairs” with wood screws. The color and texture of the dark wood is gorgeous and the white end style pieces appear to be intact and in good condition, however, I’m no expert on those kinds of materials. It would be an excellent addition to a personal collection of fine wooden hand tools of this caliber. Due to the quality and age of this item, packing of this style plane will be more than just an extra amount one would normally use. The shipping will be a little extra for such a fine item as this.
