This is a nice old Japanese Edo Period Sode Garami or Sleeve Entangler. The item is approximately 80" long and is in very good shape but there is one missing spike on the pole spikes. The end is also loose but is attached and doesn't come off. The weapon was used by Japanese Police to subdue criminal by wrapping (entangling) the end in the clothing. The spikes down the pole kept the criminal from grapping it and trying to get it loose. The pole may be an old (1800's) replacement but the entangler is early to mid 1700's.
