Antique Estate Elephant Ivory Sword

You are bidding on an antique carved ivory sword. Has an ivory handle, hilt, and sheath. The blade is made of a hard steal and measures 12 inches long. This is a very heavy and sturdy sword that has a very good feel to it. T was a piece near the front of the sword that was repaired at some point. And t are a couple other small cracks. Still an amazing piece and it looks like the repairs happened near the date of creation. This is still not going to just fall apart. I have had this in my possession for about a year and a half and have displayed and shown this to dozens of people with no problems.

Sword measures 24 inches in total length. The blade measures 12 inches long and the sheath is 16 inches long and from the hilt to the end of the handle measures a little over 8 inches.

This item was purchased at an estate sale from a private collection and was made prior to 1970. It appears to have the Lines of Retzius which are unique to elephant ivory. These fine intersecting lines are visible in cross section, and give an engine-turned effect (intersecting lines with a diamond shape between them).

Although we dont know the exact date that these were made, we assume from the minimal aging on them to have been made between 1930-1950. It was purchased from the estate of Pauline Palumbo an heir to one of the founders of Standard Oil. T is paperwork as far the provinence but will not be included since it applys to all of the ivory we purchased at the estate sale.
