This genuine ivory, hand-carved chess set has been estimated to have been made in the very early 1900's, before the ivory ban. We believe this is Chinese in origin. T is some damage to some of the pieces, and I actually have a few of the fragments kept safely in a plastic bag in case someone has the desire to restore the pieces. The wooden chest holds the pieces and measures 17 inches x 17 inches when opened. The case was also hand-made. T are some knicks and scratches in the varnish, but it's still in good shape. The inside lining is in great condition and is still intact. The box has a brass closure.

The kings measure 4 inches tall and the bases have about a 1 inch diameter. The pawns measure 2 inches tall with a .5 inch diameter at the base.

All the pieces were hand carved, so no two are exactly alike. I have taken some close-up pictures of some of the pieces, especially the ones with damage. This set is still beautiful and with no reserve on this auction, is an amazing opportunity to get an extremely rare set at a great price! Similar sets have sold for thousands in antique stores.

Do not confuse our low starting prices with low quality. These are high quality items but we want everyone to be able to participate in true auctions without worrying about reserves.
