Hello Folks, This auction is for an original working Elias Ingraham "Ionic" wall clock--8 day . Classified as a "Wall Clock; round head, round drop". Made by E. Ingraham and Co, Bristol, Conn. A wonderful time only clock made originally for the home or business. Made from 1861 to the early 1900's. This clock measures 14 inches wide and 22 inches tall. It has a walnut case, original painted dial (paint is crazed with some loss) and original paper sticker.
I wanted the prospective buyers to get a good look at what exactly they are bidding on so I decided to remove the works give the works a gentle cleaning and oiling and to discover any repairs or damage. As you see from the pictures the clock, it appears to be pretty original. Take note of the works--I found this interesting that t are no screws used to assemble it. T has been repairs over the years and I have tried to show these discoveries in the photos. T is some minor work to be done if this is to be a restoration. if it is to be used as a decoration it is ready to go. are some things I have noted: One of the mounting blocks for the works is split however it still holds the works securely. The hinge screwsfor the main cover need to be refitted. I have not fooled with the case as it is "as found" and I will let the successful bidder do any cleaning or restoration. The large gear has be repaired many, many years ago with a couple of teeth expertly replaced. As the paper label instructs, the clock has been mounted securely with screws as t are two screw holes inside the drop that shows in the pictures. Please check out the picture showing the back of the dial, a couple of dates that have been written t that might help with placing an age on the clock. I am assuming that these dates are 1897 and 1946. These dates were placed in pencil when the clock was repaired or cleaned. My gut feeling is that this clock was manufactured early on in the production say 1860s to 1870s? After I reassembled the clock I hung it on the wall, wound and set it. The clock started right up and continues to run accurately. Please use the pictures as your guide and if you need additional information please ask! I am not a Clockmaker or a Horologist so excuse me if I didn't use the proper terminology for specific parts. I have shipped ebay items (including clocks and chandeliers) for over a decade now so rest assured that this item will be packaged with the utmost of care. I will require the purchaser to acquire insurance as once it leaves my watchful eye I cannot control it's handling. Sold w is /as is. I have provided the opportunity for prospective bidders to ask questions and request additional photos. Please take into consideration my feedback and many years of happy customers. UPDATE!: Day 4 of the auction--Clock is still running good--I did add some weight (removable) to the bob to adust the accuracy--Depending on your climate / altitude etc you may need to adjust the bob accordingly. Any questions please email. Update #2: Thanks for a question from "Jerry" (See below)--Jerry instructed me how to adjust the pendulum bob so that the weight was not necessary. I have removed the small weight (only placed t for a couple of hours) and adjusted the bob down and the clock is right on! Thanks Jerry! Like I said in my original ad--I'm no expert for sure!Yet Another Update: I had another question (see below) asking if the emblem on the drop glass was gold leaf or painted on. I tried to get a decent close up but the reflection from the glass and gold emblem kept me from getting a good picture. Let me just say this--I have a victorian walking stick with a gold knob on it. I held the gold knob next to the emblem and the texture, color and brightness was the same. So if I had to guess, I would guess it is gold leaf. Use the ...
