This is a beautiful large pitcher and bowl set in the "Ceres" pattern made by Elsmore and Forster, Tunstall, England circa 1853-1871 in ironstone. The pitcher is 13 inches tall and approximately 8 inches in diameter at the widest point. (T is a 9" tall pitcher like this listed on the internet for $395.00) The bowl is 14 1/2 inches in diameter and stands 4 1/2 inches high. Both pieces are marked on the bottom with the Elsmore & Forster "diamond" mark which is embedded. The pitcher also has the Royal Coat of Arms mark. If I could make out the marks in the diamond mark, then I could tell you exactly when each piece was made.....I can't, they are too faint. Both pieces are in excellent condition for their age. No chips or cracks that I can find anyw on them. T is a very small brownish stain in the bottom of the bowl and a few very tiny brownish dots on the pitcher. They can probably be bleached out if they bother you. I tend to think it adds character and shows that niether of these pieces is a "repro". If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
