Antique English Arts & Craft Wicker End Table Stand Round Glass Top, Two Tier, Dryad Co, England c1900 Direct from England, this listing is for one of the prettiest wood and wicker tables that you will ever find!! The lines and arches of the table first caught my eye, followed by its excellent construction and craftsmanship. The table has its original makerâe(tm)s tag âeoeDryadâe underneath, and a quick search on the internet revealed the following brief history about Dryad Co: âeoeCane furniture was still seen as a novelty in early twentieth-century Britain. It was partly to counteract this that Dryad cane furniture was given names, such as âe~Jolly Friarâe(tm), âe~Virginâe(tm)s Bowerâe(tm), and âe~Daydreamâe(tm), redolent of a romantic English past. Peach also ran an effective advertising and publicity machine working closely with retail stores, magazines and exhibitions. Furniture was available by mail order and even supplied overseas to Japan, USA and South America. By 1911 the firm employed over 50 workers. The following year it moved to large new premises in St Nicholas Street, Leicester. The success of Dryad encouraged rivals, such as the well-established Leicester firm of W T Elmore, to imitate its approach and new businesses, including Cardoons of Castle Donning ton, Harrison & Sons of Grantham and Engrave of Thomaston, to set up in competition.âe This table clearly fits right in, with its romantic needlework under the glass top, and its beautiful arches below the second shelf. The table is 28 ¼âeH x 20âe x 20âe; The round top is 20âe diameter and the second shelf is appx. 12âe x 12âe. The table is in good condition for its age, structurally sound and visually appealing, with less than normal signs of age and use, scratches, dings, and other imperfections. Please note that it is rare to find a table like this with the original top in place, and the following notations are disclosure items, and do not detract from the table: I believe the glass top, metal brass clasps, and the linen underneath the glass all to be original to the table. The glass has some slight surface scratches, as to be expected, but no cracks, chips or major damage. The metal brass clasps have some oxidation, as to be expected as well, and the matting underneath the glass has some fading around the edges as you can see in the photos. I encourage you to email me with any questions you might have prior to bidding. Please keep in mind antique furniture should be purchased for its uniqueness, higher quality material and craftsmanship and antique patina, charm and character. Shipping : Professional packaging, shipping and insurance on this item is $45.00(lower 48 states only). All my antique furniture is professionally packaged for shipment by UPS, resulting in very little shipping damage in the past, but sometimes creating slightly higher shipping costs on my antiques versus other sellers. I believe it is worth the few extra dollars to get your one-of-a-kind antique delivered safely to your door!! Local pick-up in Shreveport, Louisiana is also available to buyers in the area. Please email for arrangements; Louisiana sales tax will apply for items picked up in Shreveport. Thank you for spending time on this listing; I realize t are many, many sellers to choose from, and I appreciate you considering my item!! I also invite you to take a minute to visit my eBay store, Geaux Vintage Antiques, to see more English and European antique furniture, barley twist items, stained glass, and many other unique and personally selected pieces for your home or office décor! âe¦âewith all that, why Geaux anyw else"...
