WOW ! Take a look at this fabulous 1860-1880s English Solid, Dark Oak heavily carved corner chair in great condition, measuring 19 inches wide by 19 inches long , having an angle of 20 inches on both sides. The barrel back features hand carved dolphin - griffin creatures , very detailed ! Exquisite ! Around the top of the barrel back where it crests at the top , a carved familiar face , that of " Northwind ! " The front leg tapers down to a carved hairy animial paw. This chair is definately a piece of history. I have researched corner chairs and found very few to have the solid carved seat as seen in this prime example ! Carvings are not only intricate , but also detailed througout this entire work of art ! There is a chip off of the carving on the top of the chair. I have circled this in the auction. The place has been stained to blend. This chair would make an excellent conversation piece in your den , living room , office , or parlor. I guarantee no one in your neighborhood will have one!
