Antique English Oak Barley Twist Fireplace Stand Screen EXTRA TALL size, Hand Needlework Center, Bracket feet Direct from England, purchased in a recent English shipment sale, this listing is for a beautiful antique English oak fireplace stand or screen, with some exceptionally nice features. First of all, the screen is VERY LARGE, wider than most others I have found!! It has barley twist turned side posts with turned âeoeacornâe finials, elegantly shaped bracket feet, and wonderful oak grain with a lovely aged patina. The needlework is on a tan linen cloth and features a floral motifâe¦.an English country basket brimming over with delightful garden flowers. The needlework has a multitude of colors, with various shades of blue, brown, green, rose, gold, yellow and orange hues. The handwork is very well done, obviously by someone quite experienced. The barley twist oak screen is circa 1900..... The solid wood back doesnâe(tm)t appear to have been ever removed, but Iâe(tm)m sure it was professionally done, as the needlework appears to be circa 1940-1960. It was very popular in England during that time for ladies doing handwork to take vintage firescreens and have their handwork mounted within.
