Here is a large antique Wedgwood creamware vase made before 1860. It has one hairline crack across the lower portion of one handle (see pics 6 & 7). It occurs exactly at the point where the handle leaves the body. You will see in picture 7 that there is a small thin piece that is missing. This could of course be repaired although it is not distracting and, in fact, you really have to look for it to see it. It does not hinder the usable or beauty of this piece. There are no other hairlines, no cracks, no chips, no stains, no restorations. The elaborate gilding is in exceptional condition. I cannot say for certain whether this piece had a lid but there is evidence that it did not - there is gilding along the top edge which a lid would certainly have worn. The gilding along the rim of this piece is in perfect condition. The body is engine-turned. You'll notice in the last picture a small shallow "dent" which would have occurred in the making. This is not distracting in any way and is less noticable in everyday lighting than in the picture. I mention it only for accuracy. The only crazing occurs underneath where the glaze is thick. The vase measures 9-1/8" from handle to handle by 6-1/2" high. The diameter of the opening is 5-11/16" wide. The base diameter is 4-3/16" across. The only marking is WEDGWOOD with an undecipherable single mark directly underneath (it may not even be a deliberate mark). The vase weighs 1lb. 15 oz. I guarantee everything I sell to be as described or your money back. Please check out my other listings for my antique English ceramics. All Please email me for foreign shipping approximations.
