For auction, is an antique Bona Allen saddle dating to approximately 1930-40. It is difficult to tell the real age as t are no markings indicating date and Bona Allen was in business from 1873 until 1903 when the factory burned down. Bona Allen rebuilt in the 1930s and went out of business in 1982 and the markings on this saddle are of early Bona Allen logo and could possibly be up to 100 years old. The logo is signed Bona Allen, Sweet Home, Texas. This saddle was obtained at an estate sale and was stored in a barn on a farm in the western part of the State of Maryland. The saddle is complete and original. The leather is pretty stiff from sitting unattended all these years but the saddle is very straight and displays well. The seat measures 16" and the buckles are marked Blevin. The entire saddle is loaded with silver insets and heart shaped rivets and the underside is sheepskin. The grayish inset areas are actually silver that needs to be cleaned and polished from years of storage. The entire saddle needs a good cleaning yet even in its present condition is absolutely stunning! This is loaded with silver like saddles owned by Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Reba Macintire who went to great lengths to have one made by Bona Allen. This one is a fully hand carved saddle which Bona Allen is renowned for with a California cactus rose and poppies in a floral design and has hand tooled leather adorned with silver with spirals of silver around the highback portion of the saddle and all inset areas. The photos do not do justice to this intricately adorned saddle. I am not knowledgeable about saddles so I welcome your questions regarding sizes. Just tell me w to measure.
