Hi! This is a BIG Heavy Duty Scale which weighs things up to 400 lbs! It was made in New Britain, Ct by the Landers, Frary & Clark. I did a quick google check of Landers Frary & Clark and found out the company started in 1862. This scale is not for the meek! It's the only one Like it I couldn't even find one like it on Ebay. I think it is made from steel but my wife seems to think it may be cast iron, what ever it is; it is WELL made. It weighs about 7 lbs all by itself, has forged "High Test" 5/16 hook on the top and a BIG "S" hook on the bottom. Hopefully you can see it remains in very good working condtion from the pictures. T is a bit of surface rust and t it still seems to work great. The main body of the scale is about 10" long; with the two hooks its about 18"s. T is a partial crack in the back; but this does not affect its mechanism. T is a piece of metal on the top which i assume is put t to keep debris from gunking up the insides, it is loose but again doesn't affect the mechanism; i only mention it to be as descriptive as to its condition as possible. It still amazes me how well things were built to last way back when. I have no idea how old this is but i'm guessing well over 100 years old, and still going strong. I think it is made from steel, it is heavy and would be great for anyone wanting to weigh something heavy. Perfect for Deer, BIG Fish, Bear or whatever.
