Absolutely stunning 19th century fireplace mantle in one of the most unique and unusual designs that I have ever seen outstanding in every way it is an architectural masterpiece! The mantle is cast iron and I hope the pictures can show you all the detail that you really need to see. This mantle is unusual in the fact that it contains its own splash back. The mantle top has a phenomenal overhang and several different layers of architectural molding designs under that, one of the unique features of this mantle is that it has the original black surface, some of the moldings are in a higher luster than others as you can see on the corner of each side of the fire box is a black glass panel That is reverse painted with peacocks, flowers and other birds of paradise. The coloring is so metallic they actually appear to be precious stones in the form or design of Pietra Dura or CloisonnÃf©, This is very unusual and oddly enough the condition is truly magnificent. The reverse glass painted panels are in excellent condition and the color combinations are just to die for, you would never guess that this mantle is cast iron because it looks like just pure black beautiful marble.
