I'm not at all sure what this antique flo bleu piece is exactly, though I do know it dates from the early to mid-1800's. It is entirely possible that it's a dresser or parlor table dish, but it's also likely that it could be a miniature tureen from a child's dinner set. Regardless of what it actually is, this lidded container is charming, to say the least. It's a gracefully shaped form with appealing accents in the cobalt dec orative borders & floral designs. Its overall condition is very good: there are no chips, missing fragments or repairs ... h owever there is one hairline crack in the lid, show ing on both the interior & exterior. There is also an approximately 1" round abraded area in the lid's pale blue glaze on one domed exterior corner, exposing the white clay body . There is some discoloration & 'smudging' in one area of the white glaze at the rim of the bottom section. This 'smudged' area surely occurred in the application & reaction of the glaze & there is also some ' gr eying ' within the glaze along the rim. Th is 'gr eying' appears to have occurred in firing, where the white glaze was applied too thickly & the tin oxide 'bloomed' where the glaze pooled.
