We are pleased to offer for your consideration this ANTIQUE FLOOR MODEL ~ ELGIN NATIONAL ~ COFFEE MILL manufactured around 1890. This mill stands aproximately 63" tall to the top of the eagle. The wheels are 27 3/4" in diameter by 1" thick. After researching this mill I found that some Elgin Mills were hand cranked and some were power driven. If you look close at one of the pictures of the wheels, you will see a grove in the flat surface that possibly indicates it was both a power driven and hand crank model. Another interesting fact about the wheels is that the outside is marked ELGIN NATIONAL COFFEE MILL while the inside is marked MANF'D BY C.H. WOODRUFF & CO., ELGIN ILL. All other wheels seem to be marked WOODRUFF & EDWARDS. This could possibly indicate this mill is an earlier model? This is a very attractive coffee mill that displays well, however it has not made it thru the past 100+ years unscathed. We do not think that the lid and eagle for the hopper are original and someone over the years has made a replacement drawer. One of the ornate legs on the side of the stand has had an area replaced and welded in. They actually did a fairly decent job in matching the design. The wood handle looks to be extremely old but we are not sure if it is the original one. It has been repainted and highlighted with gold paint. All in all this read more
