Extraordinary 1890's Hand Carved Folk Art Pin Cushion Shoe (apologize for glare on a few pictures, grain is superb) This is an exceptional piece of Americana Folk Art. All hand carved, dates to around 1890's, perhaps earlier. Came from an equally exceptional family estate auction held in the Midwest. Owners were originally from the East. The attention to detail, surface "patina", elongated shoe form, and intricate wood tooling makes this one of the more exciting pieces of folk I have seen in a long time. Someone really took a great deal of time to create this piece. Very thoughtful. Surface is absolutely right as rain. Very hard to capture the finish, and integrity of grain on the shoe. It's a delicate piece. Wood is extremely thin and exceptionally well-carved. Very finely detailed. Orginal threads on "laces" The apology to be made is to the back of the heel. Seems to have cracked some time ago. T are no traces of repair, glue, or any other unwarranted marks to this piece. Just the crack of wood to the heel. Owners took great pride in caring for their Victoriana/Americana collection. This pin cushion is no exception. Approx Measurements 5 7/8L by 2 1/8"H by 1 1/2"W Weight 1.6oz The piece could probably use a soft cleaning which I have not done and am selling this piece exactly as purchased at auction, pins and all. Just think is has a fabulous look, love the finely crafting of the wood. Looks Victorian from the shoe style, but the elongated form is pure folk. All hand tooled. Is just a really sweet piece. Charming. If you are a collector of finely carved wood, pin cushions, or American Victoriana, think this piece would make an exemplary addition to your collection.
