ANTIQUE FOLK ART AMERICAN GENRE OIL PAINTING OF A RURAL FARM SCENE VERY CHARMING AND NAIVE EARLY TO MID 1800'S Justin from one of the many estate loads we receive in our shop each month is this wonderful ANTIQUE FOLK ART oil painting of a lovely and peaceful rural scene . This great vintage painting dates to the early to mid 1800's . It has an excellent folksy naive quality yet is still well done and very detailed. This is a nice example of a true EARLY AMERICAN FOLK ART genre painting. Non-academic and totally natural! Naive yet very competent! Original VINTAGE FOLK ART pieces are highly sought after today and command high prices on the open market! This lovely painting measures 23 by 16 inches framed with the painting itself measuring 18 by 12 inches. The frame is a simple, yet 'high country' elegant, 'bird's eye' maple burl over pine . Primitive yet simply refined, it complements the painting so well. The verdant colors of nature are only slightly softened and darkened with age , still retaining most of their original vibrancy. T is some minor overall crazing and a repair top middle. The original canvas has been backed with a newer fiberboard. We have posted many photos taken in a variety of lights so you can get a better idea of the strength of the colors. The artist had some fair amount of skill , not academic, but a naive talent that is very appealing . This is a lovely and charming subject matter , the rural farm scene a romanticized ideal of country life . Viewing the painting, one is unsure if this is a 'plein aire' work depicting reality or an idealized representation of rural living. The tiny details in the work are incredibly appealing. The laundry hanging on the lines, a pair of blue pants clearly visible, the chickens, ducks and the dog in the yard, and most charming in our opinion, the waving white curtain, drifting out the open upstairs window of the farmhouse. Even in the water of the pond the artist showed incredible attention to tiny details that add to the overall appeal. The water lilies floating in the water, the realistic reflections on the shimmering surface , both add to the total peaceful mood of the piece. Finally, the person in the boat adds a human element to the composition, emphasizing the reality of the scene. The real determination of value, whether signed or unsigned, for this type of Folk Art American Genre painting, rests in the composition and subject matter. This charming painting scores on both points! The peaceful landscape, lovely and calm, yet with a great many charming and appealing additions! What more can you ask for in a great little unstudied AMERICAN genre painting ! It's detailed yet naive, folksy and non-academic, totally lovely and oh so charming! And nicely framed, too! A TOTALLY CHARMING AND ORIGINAL EARLY TO MID 1800'S FOLKSY FARM SCENE PAINTING! THE CHARM IS IN THE DETAILS! THE BLOWING CURTAIN IN THE WINDOW IS WONDERFUL! A LOVELY IDYLLIC SCENE! THE COLORS ARE STILL STRONG AND VIVID WITH MINIMAL YELLOWING THE PRIMITIVE BUT ELEGANT FRAME COMPLEMENTS THE PAINTING WELL! LOVELY NAIVE DETAILS! GREAT FOLK ART 'HIGH COUNTRY' APPEAL! A PERFECT 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN GENRE SCENE! MINOR OVERALL CRAZING IS VISIBLE BUT PAINT IS STABLE- REPAIR TO UPPER MIDDLE IS SEEN LAYERS OF PAINT ARE BUILT UP TO CREATE SUBTLE DETAILS GREAT FOLKSY APPEAL! LOVELY BIRD'S EYE MAPLE FRAME IN OVERALL FAIR CONDITION WITH MINOR LOSSES CHICKENS, DUCKS AND A DOG IN THE YARD!
