This is a wonderful antique frame with tortoise marbling, the inner cove is grain painted and it has a black enamel painted outside edge. Size of this frame is 16 1/2" X 12 1/2" X 1 1/4", view size is 13 1/2" X 9 1/2", back opening is 14" X 10". The frame has some wear on the edges but overall is in great condition. The print is titled " A FEAST OF ROSES " and directly under the picture in small letters are the words: Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1823 by Currier & Ives in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington . On the wood backing of the frame is a very yellowed newspaper article that someone attached sometime along the way - it reads: Garvan Furniture goes on sale Jan. 8 Collection of rare pieces, on view Jan 2, includes also silver, glass and pewter. A private collection of furniture and silver, glass, pewter, Oriental Lowestoft, English faience and rare lithographs by Currier & Ives will go on view at the American Art Association - Anderson Galleries, Inc. Jan. 2 and will be auctioned Jan 8, 9, and 10. It is owned by Francis P. Garvan, a well-known collector, who personally quarantees every piece .
