ANTIQUE/VINTAGE Framed Portrait.....dated 1840 History on Back This framed photograph is lovely....a very regal woman with a slight smile and intense eyes. She wears a lovely lace collar fastened with a cameo brooch. The wood frame is approximately 1 1/2 inches in width and painted a gold color, although the finish has aged and faded. The frame measures about 11 X 14 inches. I uncovered this photo in the attic of our hundred-year-old house. I've always wondered how the subject was connected to the family who built and lived in the house before we purchased it. Maybe she was a long lost relative. The frame is backed with brown parchment-like paper and has a brief history of the woman in the photo: 8th Generation of Eells of Boslon.Susan Hooker EellsMarried to John Mead Eellsat Oberlin, Ohio Oct 29-1840Both were graduates of Oberlin CollegeMy GrandmotherE. B. Landship (?) Curious, I researched the records of Oberlin College and sure enough, found both Susan Hooker Eells and John M Eells listed as graduates of the class of 1840. We will continue to list the many treasures found in the attic and basement of our old house.....items that mean nothing to us, but may be of interest to you.
