This is an antique shaving mug and appears to represent a fraternal organization, but I am not certain. It has what looks like the name "W.L. Davis", although it could be "M.C.". It is entirely handpainted. Within a gold checked circle is a crest, "W of the W" and "Dum - Tacet - Clamat" and what appears to be a log or a rock with an ax and a mallet. Some of the gold paint has faded and some is entirely gone. The "i" in Davis is barely t T are no marks on the bottom. I would date it to the turn of the 20th century. It stands 3 1/2" tall. The bright spot near the top is from my flash. It is in very good condition for its age, with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs.
