Description of item for sale: This clock is from France and it dates to 1900-1920. The case is solid cast brass. We often have trouble accurately photographing the color on brass, and this clock was no exception. The photos are fairly accurate-the clock is not shiny-it's a nice brass-to-bronze color with a warm patina of 100 years of aging. If you want a highly polished brass clock, it will be up to you to do the polishing! The clock itself runs and keeps good time. It's an 8 day Japy Freres movement (see photo of the Japy stamp), time and strike with brocot adjustable suspension. It chimes once on the half hour and tolls the hour with a brass hammer striking a nickel bell. The pendulum is not original to the clock, but it is the correct length and weight. These clocks usually have a back cover. It looks like this one probably did also, although it's possible it didn't since the entire clock is open and a back dust cover would not have any function. Dimensions: 18" tall, 9" wide, 6" deep. Please be sure to check at the bottom of this listing to see if any corrections or answers to questions have been posted.About our clocks: We don't claim to be experts, but we do find quite a few nice French, Belgian, German and Dutch clocks during our European shopping trips, and we've learned enough about them to be able to offer you a high quality, reliably described product.
