It's going to be a very good Christmas. That's because Santa is bringing these two extraordinary clocks, estate-fresh and oh-so-lovely. Collectors will be jumping for joy when they unwrap these beauties, but so will that special lady, who'll rush to set them on her mantle. Oh yes, Christmas is going to be very good indeed!ANTIQUE FRENCH BRASS CARRIAGE REPEATER CLOCK WORKS H & H Preview photo. Please see close up and other views of the item offered in this auction below. This remarkable carriage clock is a real beauty! It stands 5" tall, with the handle adding another 1.75" to its total height, and 3.4" wide and 3" deep. The brass and glass case is gorgeous, with a warm patina to the metal, and a lovely glint to the beveled edges of the glass - even on the circular window up top!! (Now how many clocks have you seen with circular beveling?!?!) It rests on a footed brass base, and is lifted and carried by means of the elegantly arching handle, also in gleaming brass. This is a repeater clock, meaning that should you miss the clock striking the hour, or wish to hear it chime again, you simply press the brass button on the top, and the chimes ring out once more. The porcelain dial features a smaller dial below to tell the seconds, and a main one above displaying the hour and minute. All the lovely, delicate original hands are still , sweeping grandly around the dial. And yes, we do have the original key!And the workings! Antique clocks never cease to amaze me with their extraordinary blend of beauty and functionality. In this case, the glass panels on all sides allow a clear and unfettered view of the intricate inner workings of the clock. The round window up top even allows you to look in and watch the balance wheel at work! The back reveals two markings: "H & H" and "Made in France," both etched deeply into the brass. The inside of the back door is marked "323" in two separate places in the brass framing. The flange by the balance wheel is twice marked "SRFA." Even the tiny winding stems received extra attention from the maker: the arrows indicating which direction to turn them both become decorative touches in themselves, with little flourishes of the engraver's tool adding real visual appeal. The whole is in quite wonderful condition, with no dents, dings, or real scratches that I can discover. Even the delicate beveled edges of the glass panes are unmarred. The porcelain dial does exhibit some damage at the very center, with a chip and a series of slender cracks radiating outwards from it. This clock is so lovely, however, that it is only mildly affected by this chip. The workings are in perfect order and are all original to our knowledge. It works perfectly and keeps great time! And just wait till you hear it chime - are you ever in for a treat! Santa's sleigh is sure to have some really great presents in it this year, and one of them is this exceptional carriage repeater clock. With a starting price of only $19.99, this is sure to be a hot one, so bid early and often to ensure it's your chimney Santa carries it down!
