Unmarked but more than likely created in France around the late 1870's of gilt metal, possibly bronze, with mirror and pressed glass, this lovely liqueur stand (or Cave 'A Liqueur in french), has an easy elegance and presence that makes it still attractive today.Probably originally outfitted with a colorful glass decanter and six small handled glass mugs or cups for sipping an after dinner liqueur, there are no breaks in the metal, no chips or cracks in the pressed glass underplate and no scratches in the mirror, just the expected spotting from age which lends it character and authenticity, as photographed. The bottom of the attached oval glass underplate (which is actually like a ribbed glass picture frame), is covered with the original dark green velvet paper /board behind the mirror, the upper framework with plateau mirror being held to the glass oval underplate and bottom four footed frame by four metal hooks as shown. The four feet are in a beautiful arabesque strapwork design typical of the 1870's period, and the top loop handle is accented by a cast gilt metal flower which screws on. Below the flower are two arms with holes, presumably holding at one time either a plaque announcing the contents of the decanter or perhaps attached to the stopper with a chain or lock.Measuring a total of 12 and 1/4 inches tall, this antique piece read more
