We are selling this very rare circa 1750-1800's handmade elaborate lace and embroidered handkerchief. I acquired this piece from a business associate in New York in the 1980's along with several others. The collection is housed in 3 large upholstered albums. We were fortunate last July to attend the Antiques Roadshow Appraisals in Cincinnati and have them looked at . The appraiser was impressed with the collection and called over other appraisers and could not stop looking through the albums. She told me that the collection was, indeed, worth thousands of dollars. This is a one of a kind handkerchief and a rare offering. It is large, measuring 19" x 19" point to point and 14.5" sq in the body of the work. It is listed as #58 "A Dandy's Handkerchief" . It appears to be of Brussels, Belgium or French origin. It is age appropriate in condition and color (ivory/cream). There have been a few tiny repairs in the body and showing in the last photo is the only area of lace needing conservation. It does, indeed, look like a man's fashion handkerchief of that period. Fine linen with cotton lace and embroidery. The lace and embroidery work is incredible and the overall appearance of the design is just beautiful. A true collectors piece of textile art and history. It is mounted by thread on acid free black heavy paper and will come to you rolled read more
