Description of item for sale: When is the last time you saw a clock of this quality offered for no reserve on eBay? This large clock is from Paris, France and it dates to the mid-1800's. The case is a spectacular mixture of bronze ( not spelter!) , highly polished brass (to a gilt finish) and marble. It depicts an artist with pen and sketchpad in hand working on a drawing of a woman. The detailing in the bronze and brass work is absolutely first class! Note the niche with the gilt statue of Mary, the Rococo cupids in the lower bronze panel and the actual figure on the sketch pad. The clock itself runs and keeps good time-this is a clockworks that wants to run! It's an 8 day Japy type movement, time and strike with silk thread suspension. It chimes once on the half hour and tolls the hour with a brass hammer striking a nickel bell. The stamp on the clockworks reads "ETA BT Bazelaire De Paris". The pendulum is not original to the clock, but it is the correct length and weight. Note that the extra-thick beveled face glass has a small chip (photo) and that the porcelain clock face has a number of cracks and a chip. Both of these are inexpensive repairs if you like. Dimensions: 18" tall, 13" wide, 5" deep.
