A rare early 1900's French textile that is handcrafted with an amazing array of textiles. It measures a large 17" by 12 1/2" and features an incredible embroidered center. This embroidery is done on cream damask...a beautiful basket overflowing with pink roses and other flowers. All of this intricate embroidery is done with silk threads and each flower and leaf is outlined with fine gold metallic lame' cording. The basket is mostly done with gold lame' threads embroidered to imitate the texture of a wicker basket. The body of the basket has yellow/gold silk threads as well. On each side of the basket center are two 1 1/4" inserts of rose colored ruched velvet and a 2" insert of fine gold metallic lame' lace with a floral motif. The entire piece is outlined with 1" wide gold lame' wire lace. This lace, as well as the wider lace inserts are unique in that the threads are very heavy metal. Some of the larger threads/cords have the texture of thin wire. The piece is backed with cream silk and you see the only damage on the entire textile. The silk has deteriorated with age and has that broken/dry rot texture. This is most noticeable in the very center w it was folded. Sewn unto one corner is a small tag that reads: "MADE IN FRANCE". In my final photo I have pulled back the broken silk backing so that you can see the reverse side of the fine embroidery. I'm not sure what this was originally intended to be used for. More than likely a table center or tray cover. It would be wonderful displayed on a table, framed or would even make a wonderful pillow top. As stated above, the only damage is to the silk backing. All textiles on the front are in immaculate condition with no deterioration or stains. This is French artistry at its finest so be creative. You won't be disappointed with this elaborate and rare textile! Vintage and antique items are sold in "as-found" condition and all sales are final. Thanks for looking and good luck!
