Antique French Metal Ring Box - Marked Brevete S.G.D.G. Cut Beveled Glass Top This auction is for the most adorable petite ring box from the 19th. Century. This is made of white metal (spelter)) that has been etched with flowers, vines and leaves. It has a cut beveled glass top that has turned the palest shade of violet with age and exposure to the sun. Most glass that turns purple after being exposed to sunlight for an extended period of time was likely manufactured between 1880 and 1914, with some exceptions. Given the overall appearance I would say ca. 1890s is probably the correct vintage of this box. Condition: The original lining is still intact. T is absolutely no damage to the box including the glass and the hinge is still operable. More than likely this probably had a silver wash finish that has completely worn off. It is marked on the bottom E.L. Brevete, S.G.D.G. (Sans Garantie du Gouvernement), which I gather literally translates to E.L. - Patents, Without Guaranteed Government or Patent Pending. Dimensions: 1 ½" wide, 1 ¼" deep and 1" tall. For items with a substantial book value and which I have placed a low opening bid and no reserve or items w I am acting as a agent for someone else's goods, I reserve the right to end item early if t haven't been any bids within 2 days of auction's end.
