Elegant antique french Tazza/compote, of bronze and very heavy, I believe the sphinx is bronze. Dating 1870's of French origin. The French mannerist sphinx is patinated with a very dark dark green and dark brown finish, she has a coiffed errect head with drop earrings and drop necklace, breasts of a young woman with the body of a lioness, her wings are beautiful with great detail and her face is wonderful. The base is decorated in floral & swag. The upper dish has the head of a young helmeted warrior in profile to left. The tazza sits level, overall very good condition with one flat line ding on underside of dish at side. Only visible if lifted up. Measures 9" high by 8" across inverted rim, base is 4 1/2" across. Wonderful decorative antique french antique!!!!!!!!!!!! The base and upper tazza are brass.
